Our Leadership

Nuwa Arts and Cultural Production is led by a dedicated team of artists, cultural workers, and community leaders who bring extensive experience in the fields of literature, film, arts management, and advocacy.

Kyle Gonzales 

Board Member

Kyle Gonzales is a Video Producer, Director, and Visuals Engineer with extensive experience in live broadcasting and event production. He has worked on CBC’s Family Feud, Canada’s Walk of Fame (2023 & 2024), The Juno Awards, and MuchMusic Video Awards, including Destiny’s Child’s Intimate & Interactive (2001). As the owner of ATEM HD/4K Video Switcher, Kyle brings technical expertise and creative vision to Nuwa Arts, helping enhance its multimedia storytelling. His deep understanding of video production strengthens Nuwa’s mission to amplify diverse voices and foster cultural dialogue through film, theatre, and digital media.

Niveen Shaheen

Board Member 

Niveen Shaheen is the founder and director of the Jerusalem Arab Film Festival (JAFF), established to enrich the cultural landscape of Jerusalem by showcasing Arab cinema. Her leadership at JAFF has been instrumental in creating a platform for Arab filmmakers and fostering cultural dialogue. As a board member of Nuwa Arts and Cultural Production, Niveen brings valuable experience in festival direction and cultural programming. Her dedication to promoting diverse narratives aligns seamlessly with Nuwa's mission to support intercultural dialogue and artistic expression.

Basima Takrouri 

Founder & Chief of the Board of Directors

Basima Takrouri is a novelist, screenwriter, director, and cultural advocate dedicated to amplifying artistic voices and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. With a background in literature, film, and arts management, she has worked extensively in developing community-based cultural programs and literary initiatives. As the founder and Chief of the Board of Directors of Nuwa Arts and Cultural Production, she leads efforts to create inclusive spaces where artists and writers can thrive. Her work is rooted in the belief that art is a powerful tool for social transformation, challenging dominant narratives and uplifting marginalized voices.
