Toronto, Mississauga and Guelph

SAWA The Arts Hub: SAWA is a vibrant cultural initiative operating in Mississauga and Guelph, built on strong community partnerships. In Mississauga, our partners include All Arts Studio, Miami Production, House of Fiction Toronto and The Syrian Mediteranian Cultural Forum. In Guelph, we collaborate with the Arab Women Society of Guelph and the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition. SAWA organizes monthly cultural events, music talks, and artistic gatherings that bridge cultures and bring diverse voices together. We aim to expand SAWA into more cities in the future, fostering artistic dialogue and strengthening community connections.

Grassroots Arts Programming: Inspired by our Arts for All philosophy, we decentralize cultural activities to engage marginalized communities in artistic experiences.

Public Art & Storytelling Projects: We collaborate with local artists and storytellers to create installations and performances that highlight diverse histories and lived experiences.

Educational Outreach: Our workshops and public events foster arts education and cultural awareness among youth and adults alike.

The Writing Room

The Writing Room is a flagship literary initiative by Nuwa Arts and Cultural Production, designed to cultivate cross-cultural exchange and provide writers with a creative space to develop their work. Running through three successful editions (2020-2022, 2023-2024, and now 2024-2025), the program has grown into a vital platform connecting emerging and established voices from Canada and the Arab world. Led by Canada-based writer Basima Takrouri, the program’s current third edition (2024-2025) features a diverse group of writers, including Hana Ramli (Montreal), Assine Chalhoub (Toronto), Azza Tawil (Brighton), Muna Merhi (Arizona), Bassam Jamil (Lebanon), Yousif Samlali (Morocco), Sonia Khader (Ramallah), Khalil Nassif (Ramallah), and Huda Mashharawi (Sweden).

Previous editions (2020-2023) showcased the work of talented writers such as Muna Merhi (Arizona), Khalil Nassif (Ramallah), Rajaa Ghanem (Haifa), Denis Asaad (Haifa), and Sonia Khader (Ramallah).

The program fosters mentorship, collaborative writing, and public readings, empowering writers to craft narratives that resonate across borders. The Writing Room reflects Nuwa’s commitment to amplifying Arab and Arab-diaspora voices while creating bridges between Canadian and international literary communities.

The Mississauga Arabic Book Fair

The Mississauga Arabic Book Fair is a vibrant literary event celebrating Arabic literature and culture, bringing together a diverse group of writers, poets, and storytellers from across Canada and beyond. The fair serves as a unique platform for fostering dialogue between established and emerging Arab authors while connecting them with readers and the broader literary community. This year’s event will feature prominent authors alongside local talent, showcasing works that explore themes of identity, displacement, resistance, and the richness of Arab storytelling.
